PRIME minister David Cameron has said the EU should impose harder-hitting sanctions on Russia after the downing of a Malaysian airliner in Ukraine.

The prime minister also said that Russian president Vladimir Putin could “put beyond doubt” what happened to downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 and urged the Russian president to make all the information his country has about he crash available so the world knows what happened to the crashed passenger jet.

Mr Putin said Russia was doing everything possible to allow the team of experts from the ICAO to investigate the crash scene. He also criticised the Ukraine authorities in Kiev for reigniting the fighting with the pro-Russian rebels.

Meanwhile, several MPs including former Labour Cabinet minister Peter Hain have condemned Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, saying any other country would be regarded as committing war crimes.

David Cameron said Israel had a right to defend itself but urged it to “exercise restraint” and avoid civilian casualties as it takes action against Hamas.
