The Scotsman cartoon: Red Road demolition
THE opening ceremony for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will feature a live demolition of the city’s iconic Red Road tower blocks.
The demolition of five of the six remaining blocks, at one time the tallest residential structures in Europe, will take just 15 seconds and be the biggest demolition of its kind ever seen in Europe.
The Games organisers says the move is a “a bold and dramatic statement of intent from a city focused on regeneration and a positive future for its people.”
