Nick Clegg could be sued if he blocks former Liberal Democrat chief executive Lord Rennard from returning to the party’s ranks it has been claimed.
The threat from the peer’s legal adviser, Lord Carlile, was described as “ludicrous” by Chief Treasury Secretary Danny Alexander, who insisted that Lord Rennard must apologise, despite an internal party report concluding there was not enough evidence to proceed with disciplinary proceedings.
