Lynne McCrossan: Now listen here, some styles are just for the kids

Fashion can leave you feeling full of regret.

As seasons come and go, the wearer gets a chance to cherry pick what they perceive to be the perfect looks for them. It’s the greatest thing about fashion – you get to have fun with it.

Now we’ve all had some howlers hanging in our wardrobes. But I live by the rule if you had a gag in a trend then you should never regret it, especially if it made you feel good – as long as you stay age-appropriate.

However, there is one craze hitting our high street that I feel must come with a humiliation hazard warming.

I call it the “ears-on” trend. I can’t walk into a baby department without seeing them stitched on to everything.

Sure it’s cute to dress your offspring up like the Bo’ Selecta bear because it’s age-appropriate, but as soon as they can articulate how ridiculous they look then their ear phase will be over.

The same can’t be said for the crazy adults who are now opting into the “ears-on” trend.

Fully grown women popping on woolly hats that look like cuddly toys is never going to be a good look. Next they’ll be accessorising with a tutu and butterfly wings to complete the childhood regression.
