Lynne McCrossan: Checking out the talent at new york tartan week
Tartan Week was once something the cool creative kids in Scotland cringed over. Although great for promoting Ecosse across the pond, there was a hint of fromage hindering a full embrace.
Not this year. Flying the fabulous flag are our most couture conscious bunch yet in Hayley Scanlan, Judy R Clark and Saunt and Sinner.

Hayley hailed Debbie Harry and Mary Queen of Scots as her design heroines.
That pairing of punkish roots with a princess twist is classic Scanlan, she embodies sugar and spice spectacularly making her the sought after designer of the moment.
Edinburgh’s Judy R Clark has her own section in the show with world peace tartan pieces being the highlight. She has collaborated with Scottish lace mills MYB and Calzeat.
The Borders-based lace mill Calzeat has just been commissioned to create new curtains for the White House, and it’s not just for any old windows, it’s the ones behind Barrack Obama’s desk!
It’s certainly a good time to be a creative in Scotland.
Congratulations guys, you did us proud.
