Leader comment: Edinburgh is satisfaction guaranteed

IT's a common accusation that the Evening News overly focuses on negative news when reporting the city. In fact nothing could be further from the truth.

We are keen to take every opportunity to champion the Capital and constantly extol its history, culture, and its people. We look to celebrate achievement wherever we can and fight to ensure Edinburgh gets the best deal in all areas.

Where there are problems – potholes anyone? – we will seek to hold those in authority to account. But we never forget how lucky we are to live and work in one of the world’s most beautiful cities . . . and we will never tire of telling everyone and anyone about it.

Today sees the release of the annual Edinburgh People Survey and shows a whopping 95 per cent are satisfied with the city as a place to live. That has to bring some cheer to City Chambers, even if other elements of the survey suggest room for improvement.

Even satisfaction with bin collections is heading in the right direction!

We’ll be closely examining the results of the survey over the next few days, but we should not lose sight of the overall picture.

Edinburgh is a great place to live and getting better all the time.
