Gary Flockhart: GF, phone home - oh dear I can’t

MICHAEL MCIntyre stole my iPhone. Ok, so that’s not strictly true - but let me explain...

There we were, this Michael McIntyre lookalike and I, having drinks in a bar in Barcelona, waxing about this city of marvels.

“Have you been to the new Museu del Rock?”, said my chubby-cheeked chum. “No,” I replied, “but it sounds just the ticket.” It was then that I took my iPhone from my pocket to make a note to check it out. And it was seconds later that McIntyre grabbed my iPhone and darted off into the night.

That’s Barcelona for you, I reasoned with myself. Fairytale architecture, fabulous restaurants, great nightlife... oh, and the best thieves in the world.

I never did get to thank my presumed pal for that last cerveza he bought, but I’m at least grateful he told me about the rock museum, which I visited the next day.

Situated in the newly-opened Las Arenas, a shopping complex built inside the shell of the old bullring, the Museu del Rock has one of Europe’s largest collections of memorabilia.

The inflatable submarine built for the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine movie; a Michael Jackson jacket; the wedding dress Madonna wore on her Like A Virgin tour and John Lennon’s first guitar are just some of what’s on show.

Once you’ve had a squiz at all the treasures, you can head to the museum’s Happy Rock restaurant, which contains a golden bathtub belonging to Sir Elton John that’s been transformed into a table.

I’m not sure what was the more disturbing experience: eating off that thing or being robbed by Michael McIntyre’s doppelganger.
