Finalists revealed for 2015’s legal awards

A TOTAL of 37 firms have been revealed as finalists in the Scott + Co Scottish Legal Awards 2015, the prestigious awards programme which celebrates excellence in the Scottish legal profession.

More than 60 entries have made the shortlist in a year which has seen a record-high number of firms in the 12-year history of the awards.

The most popular categories proved to be Litigation Team of the Year, followed closely by Residential Property Team of the Year and Support Team of the Year.

New awards for Employer of the Year and Public Sector Law Team were also popular with five and four firms progressing to the finals respectively.

The decisions on the winners have been agreed by a 12-strong judging panel chaired by Lorna Jack, chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland. She said: “I am delighted to reveal the finalists for the latest legal awards. It is great to see such a wide range of firms entering this year to reflect the breadth and depth of great work going on across the legal profession in Scotland.

“Myself and all the judging panel wish them all well – both for the awards and for a successful 2015.”

Joining the judging panel for the first time is Christine McLintock, former partner at McGrigors and current vice-chair of the Law Society of Scotland. Sheila Gunn, a non-executive advisor and former commercial lawyer was also new to the panel alongside Bruce McKain, journalist and formerly of the Faculty of Advocates. Shonaig Macpherson, a former lawyer and non-executive director to a number of businesses, also took part for the first time this year alongside Paul McCluskey, head of professional practices for Bank of Scotland.

The winners will be announced at a black tie awards dinner on Thursday, 26 March, 2015 at the Assembly Rooms in George Street, Edinburgh.

The winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by The Scotsman, and the Managing Partner of the Year, sponsored by Bank of Scotland, will both be announced at the awards dinner with no short-list.

The awards are operated in support of It’s Good 2 Give and LawWorks Scotland.
