Comment: It’s sad news for Scotland

THIS is brilliant news for the Royal Court, but I think it is sad for NTS and Scotland because she has been so brilliant, writes David Greig.

Vicky is going to be fantastic for them, and the key is that she is a visionary impresario and a fantastic director.

You cannot overestimate what she did at NTS. She drove the creation of an institution of a type that hasn’t existed before in British theatre – one without walls or boundaries. She built it from what was essentially nothing into probably one of the most exciting theatre institutions in the world.

I would love her to stay another ten years or more, but she has got it to a point where it is strong enough to be passed on, and we’ve got to thank her and accept things move on and that there are other challenges for her to do. I think we owe her a huge debt, and it will be a very tough act to follow.
