Welcome back to Downing Street Boris Johnson. In personal sentiments focused entirely on the Prime Minister returning from convalescence after his personal bout of coronavirus, I hope he is feeling much better and set for the battle ahead.

It’s not often that I agree with Boris Johnson, about whom I have written and said many critical things, but he is correct when he says that the UK is at the moment of maximum risk in the Covid-19 pandemic.

With everyone hoping for the speediest AND safest return to normality, the Prime Minister and First Minister have the unenviable task of balancing the health of the people with the economic considerations of a prolonged lockdown.

I think every reasonable person here understands that the last thing we need is a second coronavirus outbreak and everything must be done to minimise the risk of that happening.

Unlike the United States, where President Trump has made crazy statements about using detergent to treat Covid-19 and has also supported protests to end the lockdown, at least here there is general consensus about a measured public health approach.

The Scottish Government has been transparent about the choices being faced in the next stage of their fight against the pandemic.

The paper published last week by Nicola Sturgeon has already been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.

Now with Boris Johnson back at work hopefully we can see something similar from the UK Government.
