HOME Missions and the National Church Extension Fund were discussed at the morning session of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland yesterday.

The Home Mission report was presented by the Rev W Jardine, Glasgow, who emphasised the tremendous range of the Committee’s work. “Development is the watchword to-day,” said Mr Jardine, “not only development in buildings but development in the service of the spiritual needs of the
people of Scotland.”

“The churchless million” were referred to by the Rev Dr JL Morgan, Glasgow, who brought forward a motion for the preparation of a plan for an All-Scotland Mission commensurate with the situation in town and country. At the end of seven years, he said, the reunited Church was faced with a challenge that they had on record a drop instead of a great rise in their membership. The motion was approved in an amended form.
