From the archives: Dramatic art - creation of academy in Glasgow

4 April, 1948

The creation in Glasgow of an Academy of Dramatic Art has been decided upon by the Governors of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. It will be housed in the old Athenaeum building, which belongs to the Academy, and will provide opportunity for the study of all forms of dramatic art. The announcement was made by Mr E Rosslyn Mitchell, a Governor of the Academy, speaking at the conclusion of the Long Play Festival of the Scottish Community Drama Association last night. Everything associated with drama in all its forms would be studied under the most competent professors and he hoped that from the inspiration of the Scottish Community Drama Association, and what had been done by them during the past 25 years, there might come a time when Scotland would take its place in the expression of drama.
