From the archives: Culzean Castle - public supporting appeal

20 April, 1946

As A result of the appeal for Culzean Castle recently made by the National Trust for Scotland, some £10,000 has been received, and the Trust have also received indications of further substantial support. A proportion of this sum has been contributed as a result of large donations for which the Council are grateful, but the great majority of subscriptions, ranging from 2s 6d upwards, including a great many of between £5 and £10, have been received from the general public, indicating a wide measure of support for the scheme. The Trust intends, in due course, to publish the names of their benefactors. Funds are still urgently required to enable the Trust to carry out the scheme in its entirety. A part of the scheme is the proposal to erect attractive groups of estate housing for ex-Servicemen who will find employment both in the Castle and on the policies.
