“STANDARD” PETROL

From June 1 motorists will be entitled to a “standard” ration of petrol giving the equivalent of 90 miles a month – about one-third of the last “basic” allowance. The new ration will be related the horsepower of the car, and those obtaining only the standard ration will get half-price licences. The ration will not be additional to existing supplementary allowances, from which a reduction will be made equivalent to the standard ration, which can be used without restriction. The standard allowance will be valid for the month of issue and the succeeding five months, so that coupons may be accumulated, and during the first six months of the new system coupons may be used in advance. There is to be a 10 per cent cut in allowances issued by the Ministry of Transport for goods vehicles.
