Opera work to shine on Lothian tour

AUDIENCES in the Lothians will be the first in the UK to hear a brand new work by composer Gareth Williams when Opera Highlights hits the road later this month.

Scottish Opera’s inaugural composer in residence has revised Dance ‘til the Sun Sets especially for the annual 15-date tour.

It will be performed alongside arias and ensembles from operas including Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, as well as a sprinkling of lesser-known works from the likes of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko and Britten’s Paul Bunyan.

The tour will visit the Howden Park Centre in Livingston on January 31 at 7.30pm, and Musselburgh’s Brunton Theatre on March 3 at 7.30pm.

In charge of picking the Opera Highlights programme for more than a decade, Scottish Opera’s head of music, Derek Clark, will be at the helm once again.
