One killed, two injured in Aberdeenshire car crash

A WOMAN has died and two other people are fighting for their lives in hospital following a two car crash in Aberdeenshire.

The woman, who has still to be named, died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being airlifted to hospital by air ambulance following the horrific collision last night on the A98 Banff to Portsoy road.

She was driving a black Seat Leon which was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Golf on the road, five miles East of Portsoy.

The male driver of the Golf was also flown by air ambulance to the ARI. His female passenger was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Cut from wreckage

All three people had to be cut from the mangled wreckage of the cars by firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland responded to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision where injury was reported on the A98 Banff to Portsoy Road approximately five miles East of Portsoy.

“Police attended along with Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service partners to deal with the incident.”

Road closed most of night

He continued: “At the scene it was found that a blue Volkswagen Golf with an adult male driver and an adult female passenger on board had collided with a black Seat Leon driven by an adult female. All three persons were injured and the drivers from both vehicles were conveyed by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The female passenger from the Volkswagen Golf was conveyed to Dr Grays Hospital, Elgin by ambulance for treatment.

“The female driver of the black Seat Leon sadly died from her injuries at hospital. The other injured persons have potentially life changing injuries. “

The road was closed for most of the night and diversions were put in place while accident scene investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene of the fatal crash. Firefighters set up lights to illuminate the scene.
