Olympic Torch relay: Flame takes a comic turn south to Dundee

The Olympic Torch had a Dandy time as it continued its journey through Scotland, paraded past Desperate Dan’s statue in Dundee yesterday on Day 27 of the 70-day tour.

Huge crowds cheered as 16-year-old swimmer Mark Szaranek did the honours alongside the famous character. Mark was nominated after being selected to represent Great Britain at the 2011 European Olympic Youth Games. More than 100 torchbearers carried the torch on its 133-mile route from Aberdeen to Dundee.

Other torchbearers in Dundee included Andy Coogan, a former Japanese prisoner of war PoW who is the uncle of Sir Chris Hoy, the gold-medal winning cyclist.

Today, the relay will travel from St Andrews, through Fife to Dunblane, and then on to Edinburgh.
