Officers trace assault victim

POLICE have traced the victim of an assault and robbery who fought off two muggers as they tried to steal his rucksack.

Two men, aged 28 and 30, were apprehended by officers who were called by passers-by to an attempted robbery in East Hermitage Place in Leith last Wednesday.

When police officers arrived at the scene of the assault, the victim, who had been punched on the head and body while trying to hold on to his possessions, had already fled the area.

Now the man has been traced following a public appeal by police.

The arrested men were set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.
