Officers snare weapons haul

NEARLY 250 people were caught carrying offensive weapons during police searches in the Lothians over six months, new figures have shown.

A total of 249 “positive” searches were carried out in the area between April and ­September.

The weapons were found during the 6440 searches conducted during the period.

In Edinburgh, 147 out of 3373 searches proved “positive” over the six months.
