Officer awarded £200 after attack by dog on home raid

A POLICE officer who was bitten on the backside by a dog after its owner ordered it to attack him has been awarded £200 compensation.

Lothian and Borders constable Andrew McGhee suffered puncture wounds and had to go to hospital for treatment.

PC McGhee was one of nine police officers who burst into the Edinburgh home of single mum Dionne Bolton, 21, armed with a search warrant, Livingston Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

PC McGhee became the target of the family pet when Bolton shouted at her dog to "bite him", depute fiscal Lisa McCloy told the court.

Bolton, of Ferry Road Drive, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to assaulting PC McGhee on 8 January this year.

Bolton's lawyer Paul Harran said his client was a first offender and looked after her daughter, who was not yet 18 months old. She was sentenced to 18 months' probation and ordered to pay 200 compensation to the bitten officer.
