OAP and dogs rescued from Stockbridge blaze

An 80-year-old woman and two dogs were rescued after a small fire broke out in a Stockbridge flat this evening.

Two fire engines and an ambulance rushed to the Raeburn Place home at around 7pm.

Firefighters cordoned off the area while they came to the elderly woman’s aid.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two appliances were called out following the activation of a smoke alarm on a premises that was being monitored by a care alarm.

“They received confirmation that a smoke alarm had activated, but they could not make contact with the occupant.

“We sent two appliances to Raeburn Place at approximately 6.57pm, where a small fire was found inside the home.

“There was one casualty, an 80-year-old woman, who was being treated on site. Two dogs were also rescued.”

The incident prompted minor traffic tailbacks through the Stockbridge area, as vehicles slowed down to get past the fire engines.

An ambulance spokesman said: “We have one ambulance in attendance at the moment.

“We received a call from Scottish Fire & Rescue at around quarter past seven. The Fire Service were already in attendance.”
