'Not enough' hybrid cars in SNP's fleet

THE green credentials of the Scottish Government have been questioned after new figures showed it has invested in just three electric hybrid cars in the last two years.

Following a parliamentary question by Lib Dem transport spokeswoman Alison McInnes MSP, finance secretary John Swinney said that 38 diesel vehicles had been bought in the last two years, compared to just three environmentally friendly models.

However, the government does own 24 hybrid cars in total, compared to just two which run solely on unleaded fuel.

Mrs McInnes said: "The ongoing replacement of the government car fleet should be an opportunity for the SNP – by opting for hybrid cars they could be setting an example for the rest of the country."
