NHS urges residents to be prepared for winter

NHS Lothian has urged people to prepare for winter.

The Be Ready for Winter Campaign advises people to restock their medicine cabinet with cold and flu remedies, use their local pharmacy for advice and medication, make sure they have enough of their repeat prescriptions to last over Christmas and to know their GP surgery’s opening hours during the festive season.

Medical director Dr David Farquharson said: “In these colder months it is important for everyone in Lothian, particularly parents and elderly people, to take a few simple steps so they are prepared if they are unlucky enough to catch a cough or cold this winter.

“Although colds and flu can make you feel really ill, pharmacists can often provide the best help and advice on restocking your medicine cabinet.

“People can also access out of hours GP services through NHS 24.”
