NHS in cancer rise warning

THOUSANDS more cancer cases will present themselves in coming years, health chiefs have said.

In a document given to NHS Lothian board members, they stated the incidence of cancer will increase by about 3.7 per cent between 2016 and 2020.

It is understood a predicted improvement in diagnosis will be one of the reasons for the increase, while an ageing population will place additional strain on services.

Medical advances will also mean more people will survive the disease.
