New Year games are full of ups and doons

Hogmanay organisers have urged people to “get off the sofa” on New Year’s Day and join in with the Old Town games.

A series of games are taking place across the Old Town in the New Year Games, including two teams – “uppies” and “doonies” – taking part in giant board games.

Pete Irvine, the creative director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said: “I live in the north of Edinburgh so count myself as an uppie and am thoroughly looking forward to cheering on my team. The games are a great way to spend the afternoon.”
