New trains rolled out on Lothian line

PASSENGERS are set to benefit from new electric trains being introduced on routes between Edinburgh, North Berwick and Dunbar.

The Class 380s, which are already being used on other parts of the rail network, represent a 430 million investment, which includes the purchase of the trains by financiers and a 16-year lease period.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "This is great news for rail users in East Lothian and I'm delighted this fleet of has now come into service on the North Berwick line. The Class 380 trains will help meet the Scottish Government's commitment to encourage people to make the switch from their car to more sustainable modes of transport."
