New route on course for race in park

ORGANISERS of this weekend's Bupa Great Winter Run will wait until the last minute before deciding on the route for the race – but insist it will still go ahead.

They said they were doing everything in their power to make sure the original 5km route around Holyrood Park would be used, including drafting in private gritting firms.

Despite bringing in a snow plough to clear the route, they said contingency measures were in place to use a different course.

This would be made up of a combination of the cleared lower road through the park plus some running on snow-covered grass.

The decision on whether the event will take place using the original route will be made just hours before the race on Saturday morning.

A spokeswoman said: "The race is most definitely still going ahead. We're doing everything we can to keep to the original course, including bringing in a private firm to grit the route. An alternative route is very much the back-up plan and our number one priority is to provide a good, safe running experience."
