New roles for ousted MSPs

HIGH-profile former Labour MSPs defeated in last month's election are to return to Holyrood as assistants and researchers to newly elected party colleagues.

Former finance minister Andy Kerr, right, is among the trio returning to the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Kerr said he would be paid in an "interim advisory" role to Labour's Margaret McCulloch in Central Scotland, after he lost to the SNP's Linda Fabiani in East Kilbride.

Two of the party's other defeated MSPS are also returning, including Cathie Craigie who lost Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. She is now giving unpaid advice to Mark Griffin, a Labour list MSP for Central Scotland.

Karen Gillon who lost Clydesdale to the SNP's Aileen Campbell is now working on an "ad hoc temporary basis" for Claudia Beamish, a Labour list MSP for South of Scotland.
