New hospital is on schedule

BUILDING work for a new hospital in Midlothian is ahead of schedule, the health board has said.

The 18 million facility in Dalkeith is due to open by October, but NHS Lothian said progress had been quicker than expected.

Once open it will bring a new range of services to the area, and it has been described as the "jewel in the crown" and is the latest in a 40m spending spree on health services there.

Director of capital planning and projects Iain Graham said: "The contractor is continuing to make very good progress on site."
