New course getting to work on youth training and jobs

A COURSE which helps youths and young adults move into work or training has been officially launched at the Scottish Parliament.

As part of the Working it Out course, 16 to 24-year-olds complete community challenges, such as litter picking or painting and decorating.

They also complete personal challenges, including visiting job centres or colleges.

The youths on the course are all from north Edinburgh and have barriers to learning such as substance misuse or family problems.

The first time the course ran, last November, more than 80 per cent of those who completed it moved on to work, college or apprenticeships.

Young people who are currently participating in the second course are painting two rooms at the Muirhouse Library.
