Detectives hope the latest appeal will refresh memories exactly 12 months on from the harrowing sex attack.

They have previously issued CCTG footage of a man “of significant interest” who is aged in his 50s and was wearing a red hat.

The 33-year-old victim was collected in a silver or grey five door hatchback car around Allardice Street, Stonehaven, after the conclusion of the Fireballs Hogmanay event.

She was assaulted between 1am and 3am on January 1, 2013, on the A90 between Stonehaven and Portlethen.

She was left shaken but uninjured.

The attacker is also described as wearing a long dark coloured waterproof coat.

Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie said: “An image of a man who police were keen to speak to was previously released and we would again appeal for this person or any witnesses to come forward.

“Anyone who recognises the male in the footage is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
