Never too old for Games

AROUND 100 residents have competed in a range of sports as part of Midlothian’s Senior Games.

The Games, which were organised by Midlothian Council’s Ageing Well team, took place over two days last week at Mayfield Leisure Centre and Lasswade High School Sports Centre. Teams from ten Midlothian care homes took part in the events at Mayfield, while sheltered housing and day care residents competed in the games at Lasswade.

A piper was on hand for the opening ceremony which saw the teams piped into the arena. The teams also got to hold one of the torches used in the Olympic Flame relay through Midlothian. Competition highlights included the boules-like game of boccia, skittles and even new-age kurling – similar to ordinary curling but without the ice.
