Nepal Earthquake: Edinburgh to hold candle-lit vigil

A CANDLE-LIT vigil to remember victims of the recent Nepal earthquake is to be held in the Capital.

In an emergency motion lodged today, Lord Provost Donald Wilson revealed the event would take place on Saturday, at 4pm, in the city chambers quadrangle.

Emergency teams are still battling to rescue survivors of last Saturday’s disaster, which is now thought to have killed nearly 5500 people.

The motion states: “Council expresses its deep concern and sympathy for the people of Nepal following recent disastrous events in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Edinburgh residents are invited to join the Lord Provost and Elected Members of the Council for this important occasion.”
