National Trust seeks Haddo babes

THE National Trust for Scotland is searching for people who were born in a stately home that was turned into a maternity hospital during the Second World War.

The charity wants to find so-called "Haddo Babies", who were born at Haddo House in Ellon, the historic home of the Earls and Marquesses of Aberdeen.

As the Second World War devastated Britain, Haddo House was converted into a maternity hospital to cater for local women and evacuees from Glasgow.

From 1939 to 1945, nearly 1,200 babies were born there.

The building was designed by William Adam in 1732. The trust plans an exhibition that looks at the Haddo Babies' stories.
