Napoleon's aide honoured

A SOLDIER who rose to become Napoleon's right-hand man is to commemorated in the Western Isles where his father was born.

On Friday, Jacques Etienne Joseph Alexandre MacDonald, Marshal MacDonald, Duke of Tarentum, will be honoured by the unveiling of a plaque in Howbeg in South Uist. He was born in Sedan, Ardennes, France. His father, Neil MacEachen, later MacDonald, came from a Jacobite family and was a close relative of Flora MacDonald, who played a key role in the escape of Prince Charles Edward Stuart after the 1745 Rising failed.
