Nairn sawmill damaged by fire

A sawmill in the Highlands has been badly damaged by a blaze.

Six fire crews were called to the scene of John Gordon sawmill in Nairn at about 6.45pm last night after reports of flames inside the yard.

Firefighters had the fire under control within several hours, but remained at the scene overnight.

The fire service spokeswoman said around 30% of the building and various machinery was damaged by the blaze.

The company is one of Nairn’s largest employers and has been managed by four generations of the same family since the late 1880s.
