Mystery as car ends up in Union Canal

‘DO you remember where we parked?’ It’s a question many of us have asked at one stage in our lives. Most of us, however, won’t find our lost vehicles submerged in five feet of water.

Unfortunately for one unlucky driver in Ratho that’s exactly what he or she is going to discover when returning to their Nissan Primera, which is currently sitting in the Union Canal.

It is believed that the vehicle was parked near the Bridge Inn, located on a nearby hill, and that the handbrake came loose.

“We were travelling through in our boat and moored here,” said a female witness.

“We went into the pub to have lunch, two minutes later a waitress came to ask if we had left our car parked outside.

“We went outside to have a look. That’s when we saw a car was in the water.”

“The car must have rolled about 100 metres down the hill. It went straight into the canal. The handbrake must have come off. Luckily, no one was injured.”

Police have been made aware of the incident but do not believe it to be a police matter at the moment.
