Mystery after loner found dead in street with serious head injuries

DETECTIVES are trying to piece together the final movements of a quiet loner as part of investigations into his "unexplained" death.

James Geddes, 50, died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary early on Thursday after being found lying in a street in Aberdeen city centre with serious head injuries.

Mr Geddes, who stayed in Wallfield Crescent, was found in Rosemount Place late on Wednesday night and was taken to hospital where he later died.

Detective Inspector Matt Mackay, who is heading the investigation, said: "The enquiry is still in its very early stages.

"The death continues to be treated as unexplained."

He said: "We are trying to piece together James's movements on Wednesday night.

"We are anxious to talk to anyone who was in the Rosemount Place area, in particular near the Video Drive-In shop, around 10pm on Wednesday.

"James was a distinctive-looking man with long, dark hair and we hope people will remember seeing him."

DI Mackay added: "He appears to have spent most of his time in Rosemount and he will have been regularly seen in the area.

"James lived a quiet life and appeared to have few close friends. Any associates who could help us should pick up the phone and contact us."

One of Mr Geddes' neighbours said: "He was likeable. I just knew him to talk to. He kept himself to himself. It's quite quiet around here and I'm shocked to hear about what happened."
