Murderer who went on run dies in prison

A KILLER who previously went on the run from jail for nearly three weeks has died behind bars.

Raymond Holland, 40 got a life sentence in 1989 for murdering a fellow inmate at Greenock young offenders' institution while he was serving a two-year sentence for robbery.

The HIV-positive Saughton Prison inmate fell ill on Wednesday and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died on Thursday night.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death according to the Scottish Prison Service.

In 2001, Holland spent 20 days on the run having been let out to work in a charity shop in Portobello.
