Murder probe police talk to congregations

DETECTIVES investigating the “violent and brutal” murder of Maciej Ciania have visited churches with large Polish congregations.

Police spoke to worshippers at St Mary’s Cathedral and Abbeyhill Baptist Church yesterday as part of the investigation into the death of the 34-year-old.

Crimestoppers has also put up a £1000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Mr Ciania’s body was found at his flat in Dickson Street in Leith on January 14. .

Detective Inspector Stuart Houston, from the major inquiry team at Leith Police Office, said: “It is an unusual step for police to visit places of worship, however we know that the key to this investigation lies in the community, and I am confident that the Polish residents of Edinburgh will be keen to assist us.”
