Murder investigation launched after stabbing

STRATHCLYDE Police has launched a murder inquiry after a 42 year-old man died following an incident in Plains, near Airdrie on Friday.

At approximately 12.35am on Friday, 41 year-old Christopher Bergin was seriously injured after being stabbed within the close of flats at Millhall Court, Plains.

He was taken to Monklands District General Hospital where he died from his injuries last night.

A post mortem examination is due to take place today. Police are treating the death as murder.

Relatives are aware and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell of Coatbridge Police Office said today:

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this incident and officers are continuing to interview witnesses and carry out door to door enquires in an effort to glean further information on this murder.

“I would ask anyone was in the area of Millhall Court in Plains around the time of the attack on Friday morning to come forward to police, as they may have unwittingly witnessed something vital to this investigation.”
