Murder investigation after body found in Glasgow

A WOMAN found dead in her flat a week after she was last seen alive had been murdered, police revealed yesterday.

The body of Angela Humphrey, 48, was discovered by relatives in her flat in the Barmulloch area of Glasgow, at around 4:40pm on Wednesday.

Police said she lived alone and had not been seen since last Friday. Relatives who had become concerned went to her flat and discovered her body.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and police have now launched a hunt for her murderer.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Ms Humphrey since last Friday to come forward.

She was last seen wearing black-framed glasses, black trousers, black and white trainers and a cream and black three-quarter length parka style jacket. She was around 5ft 4in tall, of medium build with shoulder-length hair.

Detective Inspector Allan Burton said: “Angela lived alone and had not been seen 21 February around 1pm in Sandyhills, Glasgow.

“Relatives who had not seen her for a couple of days and were concerned that she had not been in touch with them, discovered her body within her home.

“We are obviously very keen to establish her whereabouts between last Friday and when she was found.

“Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area and checking local CCTV to establish her last movements.

“She is known to frequent Springburn shopping centre and a tanning salon in Springburn Way, Glasgow.”

Ms Humphrey’s home – just yards from a row of shops – remained cordoned off with police tape throughout yesterday, and officers guarded the two-storey block of flats, while an incident van was parked outside.

As the news of the murder spread, people visited the house where they left floral tributes tied to the garden fence.

Among the messages of condolence, one said: “Angie, can’t believe you’re gone. Love you and miss you always. Your friends Mary, Lisa and Danielle. RIPxx.”

Another said, “You’ll be sadly missed”, while one read simply, “So sad, from Anniboy x”.

Neighbours said Ms Humphrey had only moved in in December and they did not know her well.

One resident said: “It’s terrible, she’s only been here a few weeks. It’s not great round here but you don’t expect this.”
