Mum's clothes call to help cancer funds

A MUM whose five-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer at just 12 months old is urging people to "give up clothes for good".

Lisa Hilson, 25, from West Lothian, is backing a nationwide charity campaign that encourages people to strip wardrobes of unwanted clothes for donation to Cancer Research UK.

Launched today, Give Up Clothes for Good runs until 25 April to help save desperate children like her son, Jay, who four years ago was battling for survival on a life-support machine.

Lisa said: "Thanks to research, Jay is here today and is excited about starting at school this summer. He hasn't looked back and is living a full and healthy life like any other five-year-old. I can barely believe how much he's been through."

Lisa first noticed something was wrong with Jay when he repeatedly became ill and barely had the energy to open his birthday presents.

Tests revealed he had acute myeloid leukaemia and was rushed to the Sick Kids hospital where he was immediately put on life support in an intensive care ward.

Lisa said: "It was just one thing after another, but I always knew he was a little fighter."

Clothing donations can be made at TX Maxx stores across the Lothians.
