Mum 'told by police' victim shot himself

THE mother of a brother and sister accused of murder told a jury police said to her the alleged victim had shot himself.

Margaret Igoe, 61, was giving evidence at the trial of her children Paul Igoe or Hunter, 37, and Caroline Igoe, 32, who are accused of shooting Martyn Barclay, 26.

Ms Igoe told the court she had been woken up in the early hours of 17 January last year

and her daughter Caroline told her her boyfriend Mr Barclay was lying drunk in the street.

Advocate depute Alex Prentice QC asked Ms Igoe what she saw when she later went downstairs.

She replied: "He was on the back of his head as if he had fallen and cracked the back of his head."

Ms Igoe told the court when she got to the scene Paul had already left and she later found out he had removed a gun from the scene and admitted she did not tell police this.

When questioned as to why she didn't tell the police that Paul removed the gun she said it was because police told her Mr Barclay had shot himself and she didn't want to get Paul in trouble.

The pair both deny murdering Martyn Barclay at Hazelwood Grove, in the Inch area of Edinburgh, on 17 January last year.

The trial continues.
