MSPs back city's green bank drive

EDINBURGH'S case for becoming the home of the UK's new Green Investment Bank has won all-party support at the Scottish Parliament.

Opening the first members' debate since the election, Edinburgh Central SNP MSP Marco Biagi said locating the bank here would put the Capital firmly on the global low- carbon investment map. He said: "As a global financial centre of long standing, Edinburgh has its own specialist niche to fill in the new economy."

Lothians Labour MSP Sarah Boyack said Edinburgh was the "natural" location for the new bank. She added: "The cost would be a lot less than the cost of locating it in London, which must be good in terms of value for money."

Lothians Tory MSP Gavin Brown said: "Edinburgh has the critical mass of activity that is required to make an impact with the green investment bank.

Lothians Green MSP Alison Johnstone said she had some concerns about the institution itself, but added: "We want to see Edinburgh win the battle."
