MSP to raise medal issue

SCOTLAND’S Veterans Minister is to raise a West Lothian man’s military medals campaign with the UK Government.

William Leitch, who lives in Livingston, believes that the ship’s complement of HMS Concord should receive medals for the role they played in the 1949 Yangtse Incident in China.

Mr Leitch claims that the UK Government and Ministry of Defence covered up the role the ship played in the rescue of the HMS Amethyst.

And after reading about his campaign in the Evening News, Holyrood Veterans Minister Keith Brown set up his own meeting with Mr Leitch.

Mr Brown said: “I’m due to meet the minister for defence Andrew Robathan after the summer recess and I will raise this with him.”
