MSP demands answers over paediatric ward staff levels

questions are to be asked in the Scottish Parliament about paediatric staffing at St John’s hospital in Livingston.

Neil Findlay MSP has submitted four questions about the children’s ward after it was revealed that paediatric trainees have been withdrawn, and there have been difficulties in recruiting consultants.

Among his submission to Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon are questions asking what action is being taken to increase paediatric junior doctor cover, and whether the Scottish Government will provide additional funding.

He said: “The ability of NHS Lothian to provide adequate junior doctor staffing levels in paediatrics at St John’s is of great concern. The health board have assured me that there is no threat to the service. However, it does highlight a situation that should never have been allowed to happen in the first place.

“I await answers to my questions with interest.”
