MSP cleared of misusing resources

An MSP has welcomed a decision by prosecutors to take no further action over allegations she misused parliamentary resources.

The Crown Office has confirmed that proceedings will not be brought against justice committee convener Christine Grahame.

The allegations – initially raised by a former employee of the SNP member for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale – centred on the accuracy of election expenses returns.

However, a Crown Office spokesman said: “Following a referral from the Electoral Commission to the procurator fiscal in respect of Christine Grahame MSP, relating to possible breaches of the Scottish Parliament (Elections etc) Order 2010, the procurator fiscal instructed Lothian and Borders Police to carry out an investigation into the allegations.

“The results of the investigation were reported for the consideration of Crown Counsel, who decided that no proceedings should be taken.”

The decision means Ms Grahame has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
