MSP calls for equality in city strategy

new Edinburgh Western SNP MSP Colin Keir used his maiden speech to call on the Scottish Government to ensure regeneration is at the heart of its city development strategy.

He said: "For decades, areas like Muirhouse and Drylaw have had to cope with inadequate housing - often contributing to the cycle of poverty, crime and poor health.

"I welcome the Scottish Government's priority for urban regeneration. Edinburgh Council is leading a major investment project in social housing. Regeneration will give the residents of these communities an opportunity to look to the future.

"Any cities strategy cannot fail to address the social inequalities that are present in our society. Regenerating many of our communities and readdressing the inequalities that exist will be central to achieving our city's long term success."
