MSP backs plans to improve cycle paths

LOTHIANS Green MSP Alison Johnstone has backed Scottish Government plans to improve cycle paths.

Plans for £6 million allocated in the 2013-14 budget were outlined by transport minister Keith Brown earlier this week.

The Land’s End to John O’Groats tourist route will be upgraded from Barnton junction to the Forth Road Bridge and money will be available for local authorities to improve the cycle route along the A90 between Edinburgh and Fife.

Ms Johnstone said: “Funding to improve the route to the Forth Road Bridge is very welcome and I’m glad that the minister has listened to Lothian MSPs who have been calling for investment in this link for commuters and tourists.

“Every school child should be getting proper road-based cycle training and yet few councils are coming close to providing this. We must capture the enthusiasm
generated by the Olympics.”
